On January 29, 2026, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) formally forged a meaningful partnership with the Philippine Jesuit Prison Services Foundation (PJPS) through the signing of a memorandum of agreement. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing inclusive education and holistic rehabilitation for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), supporting their personal development and eventual reintegration into society.

Through the partnership, Mapúa MCL commits to supporting the ministry and initiatives of PJPS by integrating programs into the institution’s service-learning and community engagement efforts. The collaboration aims to provide opportunities for students and members of the academic community to engage in purposeful outreach that promotes restorative justice, education, and human dignity.

Representing Mapúa MCL during the signing ceremony were Engr. Anthony Hilmer Medrano, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Atty. Maria Eloisa Gan, Senior Vice President for Legal and Administration; Prof. James Ronald Mesina, Vice President for External Linkages, Internationalization, and Transnational Education (ELITE); Dr. Joy Hofilena, Director for the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement (CSCE); and Ms. Pearl Stephanie Ulep, Director of the Office for Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement (OSPGE).

PJPS was represented by Fr. Erwin Arandia, SJ, Acting Executive Director; Mr. Philip Gan, Member of the Board of Trustees; Ms. Katherine Guaño, Associate Director; Mr. Marlo Jose, Advocacy Program Coordinator; Mr. Matthew Delgado, Administration Office; and Mr. Myke Ian Hechanova, Socio-Pastoral Program Associate.

The partnership strengthens both institutions’ shared mission of extending education and compassionate service to undeserved communities. By fostering opportunities for learning, engagement, and advocacy, Mapúa MCL and PJPS aim to empower individuals and promote pathways toward restoration and reintegration.

This collaboration also advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4: Quality Education, 10: Reduced Inequalities, and 17: Partnership for the Goals, reinforcing the role of academic institutions and civil society organizations in building inclusive and sustainable communities.
