Mapúa MCL Launches RISE to Support Pulong Mindanao Elementary School

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL), through the Office for Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement (OSPGE) and the Alumni Center, in collaboration with the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement (CSCE) and volunteer students, conducted a community visit to Pulong Mindanao Elementary School (PMES) in Santa Maria, Laguna on December 12, 2025, as part of its Community Engagement Series, RISE: Renewable Initiatives for School Empowerment.

As an emerging initiative, RISE seeks to strengthen and empower partner schools by providing sustainable, long-term solutions that support quality education and community development. The visit marked a meaningful step in Mapúa MCL’s continued efforts to build lasting partnerships with local communities through service, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

During the activity, 60 families of PMES students received donations collectively raised through the Bayanihan Bingo Challenge, an initiative launched in 2018. Through this effort, members of the Mapúa MCL community actively reach out to individuals within and beyond the institution, embodying the bayanihan spirit by serving as channels of support and generosity for partner communities.

The engagement also featured a fellowship activity led by the Center for Guidance and Counseling (CGC) and Bachelor of Science in Psychology students, which fostered meaningful interaction with PMES pupils and teachers. A feeding program was likewise organized through the collective efforts of Mapúa MCL students, administrators, staff, and security personnel, further strengthening the sense of solidarity and care within the school community.

Pulong Mindanao Elementary School is identified by the Department of Education as a Last Mile School, a classification given to schools located in hard-to-reach communities with limited access to basic services, including electricity and educational resources. In response, support for PMES will continue through RISE, with an ambitious goal of installing one solar power system per classroom in the coming months. This effort will be made possible through the collaboration and generosity of dedicated stakeholders who share a commitment to sustainable and inclusive education.

This sustained community engagement reflects Mapúa MCL’s dedication to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reinforcing the institution’s role in fostering inclusive growth, resilience, and long-term impact within partner communities.
