CHS and CN students lead advocacy seminar on HIV and STDs

Last July 14, 2025, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) students from B.S. Biology and B.S. Nursing Microbiology classes under the College of Health Sciences (CHS) and College of Nursing (CN) proudly launched an advocacy seminar through a culminating project titled “Magsiyasat ng Hudyat: Ang Pagpapalawak ng Kaalaman at Kamalayan Patungkol sa HIV” – a powerful initiative to raise awareness about human immunodeficiency viruses (HIVs), sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and the importance of sex education.  With the alarming rise in HIV cases in the Philippines, especially among the youth, this event was a timely and vital step toward education and prevention.

The seminar featured two expert speakers, Carlos L. Batacan, RN, CHO I of Cabuyao City, Laguna, discussed “HIV Unmasked: Understanding Transmission, Prevention, and the Statistics Case.” This was followed by Asst. Prof. Benjie M. Clemente, RMT, MLS(ASCPi)cm, MPH, from the University of Santo Tomas, who presented “Know the Risk: Misconceptions, Treatment, and Testing Algorithm.”  Together with guests and faculty, Mapúa MCL CHS is proud to be at the forefront of the HIV advocacy movement.

This program aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health & Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
