The College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) has successfully held a series of Global Signature Courses, aimed at fostering leadership and resilience among students. Mapúa MCL’s Psychology program collaborated with Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU), a partner under the Cintana alliance. These sessions brought together esteemed facilitators and participants for an enriching educational experience.
The series kicked off on June 14, 2024, with a session titled “Psychology of a Good Leader,” facilitated by Ms. Mabeth Francia. Ms. Francia shared how leadership involves a mix of understanding people, behavior, and influence and that great leaders are aware of themselves, emotionally intelligent, adaptable, visionary, and resilient. Students learned that by understanding these aspects, anyone can develop the skills to become an effective leader who makes a positive impact.
On July 5, 2024, the course on “Transformational Leadership” was led by Dr. Dimas Angga Negoro of UEU. Dr. Negoro, delved into the concept of transformational leadership, emphasizing its role in inspiring and motivating teams toward achieving organizational goals. Through interactive sessions and real-world examples, Dr. Negoro highlighted how transformational leaders can drive innovation, improve team performance, and create a more engaged and committed workforce.
The final session of the series, held on July 6, 2024, centered on the theme “Thriving in Challenging Environments: Strategies for Organizational and Personal Growth.” It featured two insightful parts: “Organizational Grit,” facilitated by Dr. Edi Hamdi of UEU, and “Mental Health in the Workplace,” led by Ms. Mahjalin Diez, the chair of the Psychology program. It was a simultaneous session between the students of Mapúa MCL and UEU. Dr. Hamdi talked about the concept of organizational grit, illustrating how perseverance and passion contribute to success in the workplace. Strategies to cultivate resilience and maintain focus on long-term goals, despite obstacles were also discussed.
Following this, Ms. Diez explored various approaches to maintaining mental well-being and effectively navigating challenges on both personal and professional fronts, concluding the session with a powerful message, “A Healthy Workforce is a Successful Workforce.”
The success of the Global Signature Courses was significantly amplified by the collaboration with UEU. It brought together diverse perspectives and expertise, enhancing the learning experience for all participants, showing the commitment of both institutions to providing high-quality, globally relevant education, and demonstrating the value of international collaboration in the academic setting.
It was a remarkable step by Mapúa MCL’s Psychology program in equipping students with essential leadership and resilience skills. By having expert facilitators and interactive learning environments, students are empowered to navigate modern organizational complexities with confidence. Building on the success of these sessions, Mapúa MCL will continue to offer similar initiatives, further strengthening its dedication to student development and global collaboration. The College of Health Sciences eagerly anticipates more partnerships and innovative programs that will continue to prepare and empower future leaders.
