Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna powers up with 100% Renewable Energy through ACEN RES partnership
Laguna, Philippines – Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) has taken a significant step towards sustainability by partnering with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to power its campus in Cabuyao, Laguna, with 100% renewable energy.
This transition to clean energy was made possible through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), a government initiative that empowers end-users to choose their electricity supplier and mandates that their supply comes exclusively from renewable energy sources.
By transitioning to renewable energy, Mapúa MCL avoids the emission of 91 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent into the atmosphere each month.
In recognition of Mapúa MCL’s long-term commitment to a sustainable future, ACEN RES awarded the institution with a gold “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge. This proprietary badge serves as a symbol of recognition for organizations championing renewable energy adoption in the Philippines.
Engr. Sheila Mina, VP and Head of Account Management at ACEN RES and an alumna of Mapúa University, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Mapúa MCL is not only dedicated to providing quality education but is also committed to safeguarding the future of its students by embracing sustainability through this transition to renewable energy. Thank you, Mapúa, for being part of the solution. You make us proud.”
The partnership between Mapúa MCL and ACEN RES was celebrated in a switching ceremony attended by the school’s top officials and student representatives. To make the event more meaningful for students, ACEN RES held a Renewable Energy 101 session, educating them on the benefits of renewable energy and its contribution to sustainability.
ACEN RES Account Manager Kat Rosales, who led the learning session, stated, “These students will one day become leaders in their respective industries. That’s why we take opportunities like this to educate them about renewable energy and its impact on people, society, and the economy. We hope this inspires them to become responsible and conscientious business leaders who prioritize both profit and sustainability.”
Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, President and CEO of Mapúa MCL, shared his perspective on this milestone: “Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna has always been at the forefront of innovation and progress. This partnership with ACEN RES and our shift to 100% renewable energy reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and our responsibility to future generations. By embracing renewable energy, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also setting a powerful example for our students and the wider community. It aligns with our targeted Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. We are proud to be a part of this movement towards a more sustainable future for the Philippines.”
