JPCS Mapúa MCL organizes 2nd AI Summit “Redefining Intelligence: What it means to be Human in an AI world”

On June 11, 2025, Mapúa MCL students gathered at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium for JPCS Mapúa MCL’s 2nd AI Summit, themed “Redefining Intelligence: What it means to be Human in an AI world.” The insightful event featured prominent speakers, including Engr. Luigi Carlo M. De Jesus on “Harnessing No-Code AI Platform for Rapid Model Development in Research Application,” Reinald Pugoy, PhD., on “The NLP Revolution: The Journey from Word Embeddings to Large Language Models,” and Asst. Prof. Blancaflor Piorees-Arada on “The Rise of AI-Generated Anime: Tools, Trends, and Implications.”    

The summit significantly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being. Benefits from AI’s advancements in areas like Deep Learning and Machine Learning, which have crucial applications in healthcare, from diagnosis to personalized medicine. Directly impacting SDG 4: Quality Education, the event disseminated AI knowledge, fostering lifelong learning opportunities and equipping students with future-ready skills, especially highlighted by Asst. Prof. Piorees-Arada’s focus on “Educational Innovation.”    

Furthermore, the summit advanced SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Engr. De Jesus’s talk on no-code AI platforms fostered industrial innovation by making AI development accessible, while Dr. Pugoy’s insights into NLP contributed to building resilient infrastructure across various sectors. Indirectly, the broader advancements in AI discussed also support SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, as AI applications in data analysis can lead to smarter urban planning and efficient resource management.
