Beyond Compliance: Mapúa MCL’s ETYCB Integrates Operations and Finance in Landmark Joint OBE Simulation
Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna’s (Mapúa MCL) E.T. Yuchengco College of Business (ETYCB) successfully implemented a pioneering joint Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) initiative conceptualized, spearheaded, and executed by Prof. Noel Eric B. Ang, Program Chair for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and BS Marketing programs during the 3rd Term of Academic Year 2025–2026, bringing together 51 2nd-year students from two distinct majors: C-OPM192 (Supply Chain Management) for Operations Management and C-FIN192 (Treasury Management) for Financial Management.
Born out of strategic recommendations from the Program Advisory Panel convened last March 2026, Prof. Ang fast-tracked this immediate intervention by proactively deploying these updates to current students to enrich their ongoing term. The ambitious core project required students to co-create a simulated corporate entity from the ground up. Mimicking authentic workplace dynamics, students were split into dedicated corporate departments according to their specializations, with Financial Management Students assuming critical leadership roles in Accounting and Finance and Operations Management Students taking charge of core operational units, including Operations, Human Resources, and Purchasing.
The simulated company was then subjected to rigorous “mock” Internal and External Audits patterned after international corporate benchmarks ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System). The capstone of the simulation occurred last July 24, 2026, at the Global Classroom, featuring a culminating external audit and a professional lecture series centered on the theme: “Beyond Compliance: Why Integrated Management Systems Matter for Businesses of Every Size.”
Prof. Ang invited seasoned corporate leaders who acted both as expert keynote speakers and tough, discerning mock external auditors, including Engr. Carlos V. Tan (San Miguel Aerocity), who delivered an insightful address on the topic of “Auditing Environmental Realities” and Mr. Arvin M. Salazar (CBRE), who spoke comprehensively on “Procure-to-Pay” workflows.
To recognize their active participation and professional development, all 51 participating students were awarded official certificates of attendance for completing the expert-led lecture series.
By treating the classroom as an active corporate floor, the business students gained hands-on experience and high-impact professional advantages, including cross-functional teamwork, in-depth process mindset, direct exposure to ISO standards, audit readiness and governance, and environmental and strategic risk awareness.
This breakthrough joint OBE program proved that under agile leadership, academic structures can adapt swiftly to advisory insights, molding students who possess true corporate readiness upon graduation.
