HAPAG PINOY: A Filipino Charcuterie Experience
On September 23, 2026, the Service Learning and Community Engagement (SLCE) Livelihood Training Program, titled “HAPAG PINOY: A Filipino Charcuterie Experience”, was held at Cafe Enrique – ETY Building. The program was spearheaded by the Event Management class ETY321 under the guidance of Dr. Lena N. Canet, in partnership with the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, and benefited 30 beneficiaries of 4Ps, primarily housewives from Barangays Bigaa, Pulo, and Mamatid in Cabuyao, Laguna.
The activity primarily aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in preparing Filipino-inspired charcuterie products as a means of developing additional household income opportunities. Through the hands-on seminar workshop, participants gained competencies in small-scale food production, product preparation, presentation, portioning, costing, and basic packaging, which can be applied to entrepreneurial and livelihood activities. The training enabled participants to successfully prepare and assemble Filipino-inspired charcuterie products, providing them with tangible outputs and practical skills that can be further developed into marketable products. In doing so, the initiative promoted self-reliance, livelihood development, women’s economic empowerment, and community participation, directly supporting United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through accessible skills training and livelihood-oriented learning.
The activity was graced by the presence of Ms. Maria Rhodora R. Austria, Dean of E.T. Yuchengco College of Business (ETYCB) who shared an inspiring message during the opening program. Ms. Ma. Vanessa R. Velasco, along with the CSCE staff and selected faculty members, also joined and supported the activity, contributing to the successful delivery of the community livelihood training.
More than a skills-training activity, HAPAG PINOY served as a platform for turning knowledge into opportunity. By providing practical and replicable livelihood skills, the program sought to inspire participants to transform their creativity and available resources into potential sources of income, strengthening household resilience and fostering sustainable community empowerment.
