Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL)’s Mapúa-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (Mapúa-PTC CMET) has achieved another significant milestone as its B.S. Marine Transportation and B.S. Marine Engineering programs earned certificates of recognition for Officers-in-Charge of a Navigational Watch and Officers-in-Charge of an Engineering Watch.
The certification was granted by the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport of the Kingdom of Belgium, through its Directorate-General for Maritime Transport. This certificate recognizes Mapúa-PTC CMET as a qualified provider that meets the international standards set under the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention.
The approval is valid from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2027, provided that the institution continues to maintain an approved Quality Management System and complies with the training program, which must also undergo review and re-certification.
This international recognition certifies Mapúa-PTC CMET’s reputation as a globally competitive maritime education institution. It also improves opportunities for its maritime students and graduates, as certifications recognized by foreign maritime authorities are highly valued in international shipping and seafaring careers.
With this achievement, Mapúa MCL reaffirms its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4: Quality Education and 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, ensuring education and training that meet both national and international standards, preparing its students to excel in the global maritime industry.
