Mapúa MCL Psychology Volunteers Bring Hope and Healing to Agoncillo Community
On November 8, 2024, a group of Psychology students, faculty members, and alumni from Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) recently conducted a Psychological First Aid (PFA) program at Agoncillo Central School in Batangas. This outreach aimed to provide emotional and psychological support to children and families affected by Typhoon Kristine, which displaced over 6,000 people who remain in evacuation centers.
The volunteers prepared activities that aimed to reduce stress and build emotional strength among the children. By using simple conversations, fun group activities, and empathetic listening, the team created a space where kids felt safe to open up and share their stories. These interactions were essential in helping the children process their experiences and regain a sense of normalcy after such a challenging time.
The event highlighted the importance of community support in times of crisis. It was a powerful reminder that unity and kindness can provide comfort and help heal emotional wounds. This effort was part of Mapúa MCL’s broader mission to engage in service-learning and community outreach programs that align with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG #10: Reducing Inequalities. The project was a joint initiative of the Office for External Relations and Global Linkages and the College of Health Sciences.
By participating in activities like this, Mapúa MCL continues to show that educational institutions can make a real difference beyond the classroom, helping to foster resilience and hope in communities facing adversity.
