Mapúa MCL hosts successful Blood Donation Drive in partnership with Medical City South Luzon and Mapúa-PTC CMET
On September 19, 2024, the Office for External Relations and Global Linkages (OERGL), in collaboration with Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna’s Mapúa-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (Mapúa-PTC CMET) and Medical City South Luzon, held a highly successful blood donation drive at the ETY Lobby. The event was part of the ongoing celebration of the 57th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and was held in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Coinciding with CMET Week, this initiative continued a long-standing tradition among CMET students, highlighting their commitment to community service.
The blood donation drive began at 9:00 a.m., welcoming a diverse group of donors, including students, staff, faculty members, and even members of the local community. The process was organized efficiently, starting with donor registration, followed by a medical screening to ensure eligibility, and then the actual blood extraction. Medical professionals from Medical City South Luzon oversaw the entire process, ensuring that safety protocols were strictly followed.
Throughout the day, a steady stream of volunteers flocked to the donation booths, eager to contribute to the cause. The high turnout demonstrated a strong sense of social responsibility within the Mapúa MCL community. Donors were motivated by the opportunity to help those in need, understanding that their donations could save lives. To show appreciation, each donor was given a token consisting of snacks and refreshments to help them recuperate after donating.
The enthusiasm from the Mapúa MCL community, especially the students, left a strong impression on the staff from Medical City South Luzon, who were amazed by the overwhelming support. The dedication and spirit of the donors reflected the university’s commitment to contributing positively to society, both locally and globally.
The blood donation drive lasted until 6:00 p.m., with a total of over 70 bags of blood collected by the end of the day. This significant contribution not only supported the blood bank but also embodied the principles of SDG 3, promoting good health and well-being through collective community efforts.
