Prof. James Ronald Mesina, Assistant Vice President of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna’s (Mapúa MCL) Office for External Relations and Global Linkages (OERGL) delivered a lecture titled “Strengthening Democratic Values and Institutions for Justice and Peace” last September 13, 2024 as part of the ASEAN Lecture Series. The lecture, which supported Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, focused on the core principles of democracy, based on international law and the Philippine Constitution.

Prof. Mesina explored the link between democratic values and the strength of state institutions responsible for justice and peace. He emphasized the role of independent institutions like the judiciary and law enforcement in maintaining social order and protecting human rights.
