When does the Academic Year 2023-2024 start for college students, and when do the classes begin for each term?

The Academic Year 2023-2024 starts on August 22, 2023.

The start dates for each term are as follows:

    • 1st Term: August 22, 2023 
    • 2nd Term: December 13, 2023
    • 3rd Term: April 15, 2024 

Will the Senior High School Students be affected by this change?

No, the 14-week term schedule is applicable only to Mapúa MCL college students.

Is there any flexibility in the class schedule, and how long will each class be?

Yes, there is more flexibility in the class schedule. Classes will now 1.25 hours long per unit (1 hour and 15 minutes), as opposed to the previous 1.5 hours (1 hour and 30 minutes). See the comparison in the table below:

What is the minimum and maximum student load per term?

The minimum student load per term is 15 units, and the maximum is 18 units.

Will the program duration be affected by the shift to a 14-week term?

Yes, the program duration will be affected if you will maximize your load to 18 units. For further questions and specific concerns, you may seek guidance from your program coordinator/program chair.

How will the extension to a 14-week term impact the matriculation fees?

The miscellaneous fees charged during the midyear term will be distributed for charging across the three terms of the 14-week term system for degree programs.

 

The total annual fees will remain the same.

What are the benefits of the shift to a 14-week term?

The extended term allows for a more comprehensive understanding of course content and encourages deeper exploration of courses, fostering a well-rounded education. Students have the flexibility to complete the program earlier or enroll in a smaller number of units and still graduate on time.

Academic scholarships, such as the Dean’s List and President’s List, will still be awarded based on academic performance. The Top Spot Dean’s Listers for a particular term per program and per year level will be our Academic Scholars for the succeeding regular term.
