ETYCB faculty member and ORYSPA founder named Asia-Pacific Woman Entrepreneur of the Year
Ms. Sherill Quintana, Founder and CEO of Oryspa, receives her award during the 32nd CACCI Conference on November 24, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey.
One of Malayan Colleges Laguna’s (MCL) E.T. Yuchengco College of Business (ETYCB) faculty members, Ms. Sherill R. Quintana, was awarded Asia-Pacific Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) during the 32nd CACCI Conference on November 24, 2018 at Ciragan Palace Kempinski, Istanbul, Turkey, making her the first Filipina to receive such honor.
A part-time faculty member currently teaching Franchising and Entrepreneurship at MCL, Ms. Quintana is a sociologist-turned-entrepreneur and franchisor, and is the Founder and CEO of Oryspa Spa Solutions Inc., an award-winning brand and the first and finest maker of rice bran-based spa products in the Philippines.
Just a few months ago, she was recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World for 2018 (Global FWN100) by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) under the Innovator and Thought Leader Category in London, United Kingdom.
Aside from these distinctions, she already has impressive recognitions and awards under her name, which include Outstanding ASEAN Woman Entrepreneur 2016, one of the Most Inspiring Filipinas in 2016 by Go Negosyo, and Distinguished Alumna for Entrepreneurship 2017 by the University of the Philippines. She also conducts mentoring programs for Filipino microentrepreneurs and recently spoke at the World Trade Organization Public Forum on levelling up micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
A firm believer of Filipino brands, Ms. Quintana hopes that more Filipina leaders will emerge in the different sectors of the global economy.
Ms. Quintana is well known in the country, particularly among MSMEs as a mentor and an advocate of the Filipino brand. Her company, Oryspa, won the ASEAN Business Excellence Award in Healthcare 2016, Best in Social Responsibility Program, and Most Outstanding Filipino Franchise of the Philippine Franchise Excellence Awards 2017. Oryspa aims to inspire other MSMEs to level up, to go mainstream, and to export their brands. Ms. Quintana also launched her advocacy project “Yes The Filipino Brand Can!” and published the book “A Small Entrepreneurs Journey: How to Start, Survive, Succeed” in 2016.
“Think positive. Optimism will bring you far. Keep innovating because those who win the battle are not the intelligent ones but those who are capable of changing. And, be fueled by passion and determination. In that way, no one can ever stop you from achieving what you want to become,” she encouraged.
Proving now that Filipino brands can really go international, Ms. Quintana’s hopes are high for more Filipina leaders to rise up in the different sectors of the global economy. She went back to the academe to teach this year, believing in the power of education and that mentoring and entrepreneurial education should possibly start before one embarks on it.
