Looking back on another year of community engagement efforts, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) and its partner communities gathered together for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony last December 8, 2017.

Present in the event were the representatives from the government of Cabuyao, municipal governments of Pangil and Majayjay, Panguil River Eco-Park, Philippine Farmers Association – Majayjay Chapter, Department of Education (DepEd) – District of Majayjay-Magdalena, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Cabuyao City, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Region IV-A, Jose Fernandez Y Zorilla Sr. Elementary School, Dambo National High School, Gagalot-Taytay Elementary School, and Gawad Kalinga Hiyas Farm of Calamba; along with the MCL administrators, faculty members, and staff.

The institution’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Engr. Dennis H. Tablante took the opportunity to express his gratitude to MCL’s partner communities and to the staff who unceasingly supported all its community services.

Though he was absent in the ceremony, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, MCL President and CEO, sent his warmest greetings through a video.

Prof. Raychelle R. Artuz, Director of MCL’s Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement (CSCE), also thanked the people behind this successful phase.

(This is the day in which we celebrate our partnership. The service that we provide for you is the product of what we call “outcomes-based education service-learning and community engagement initiatives.” Through these, we are able to give our students here at MCL, an academic institution, a platform through which they can experience interaction and see what is happening in the society. This is what we want to achieve for our students, and they are learning while they are helping you, and you are learning, too.)

A couple of videos were shown afterwards featuring MCL students, professors, and administrators recalling their service-learning initiatives for 2017.

Little charmers from Children’s Joy Foundation also joined the event and set the mood by singing Christmas songs.
