MCL-LEI Director presents in BbWorld 2017

Malayan Colleges Laguna's Director for Learning Environments and Innovations (LEI) presented “Driving Online Learning Environments through Student-Teacher Partnerships” at BbWorld 2017, an annual gathering organized by Blackboard.

Malayan Colleges Laguna’s Director for Learning Environments and Innovations (LEI) Prof. Abigail Joy Rodelas-Angelia has yet again represented the institution overseas in BbWorld 2017, held last July 25-27 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

Prof. Angelia with the Blackboard Learn moderator and her fellow university representatives: Seok Bae Park (Korea University), Pauline Machika (Vaal University of Technology), Mireya Lopez (Universidad Anahuac), and Mihyeon Jeon (Korea University).

Prof. Angelia was included in one of the International Rocket Sessions: Interesting Stories, Fast! with three (3) other university representatives from different countries: Mireya Lopez (Universidad Anahuac, Mexico), Pauline Machika (Vaal University of Technology, South Africa), and Seok Bae Park (Korea University, South Korea). They all shared about the learning environment in their respective institutions and highlighted the projects that they initiated to increase their Blackboard adoption.

Showcasing the learning models that LEI has developed from MCL’s project on Blackboard Course Kernels, Prof. Angelia presented “Driving Online Learning Environments through Student-Teacher Partnerships.” According to her, they see the project as an “authentic learning opportunity especially for Multimedia Arts (MMA) and Digital Arts and Design (DAD),” who are their animators for this.

In her presentation, Prof. Angelia focused on the benefits of increasing student-teacher partnerships in developing the courses. Creative videos by the LEI animators, which were designed for various MCL courses, were also shown.

“I feel honored to share the stage with these leaders and to talk about the efforts of our own team here at MCL in order to make a difference in education. To be honest, it still feels surreal to be part of the biggest annual Blackboard event as a participant and a speaker,” Prof. Angelia shared. “I have always thought that our efforts and progress in using this system are at its nascent stages but, hearing from other presentations, I am proud that we are doing a good job at keeping abreast with current technologies and making sure that these tools positively affect student outcomes.”

According to Prof. Angelia, there is a bright future for MCL as the institution has signed up for Bb Collaborate, a simple, convenient, and reliable online collaborative learning solution, making learners feel like they’re together in the same room via collaboration and conference tools.

BbWorld, as Blackboard’s flagship event, is an annual gathering where great minds in education come together to learn, connect, and advance the future of education.
