Malayan Colleges Laguna holds The MCL Cup 2016

Participants from the De La Salle University Integrated School performing at Revolution, Innovation, Competition: Cheer and Dance 2016, held last November 19, Day 3 of The MCL Cup 2016.

Students facing off at the Final Round of the Science Quiz Show, one of the Knowledge events annually held at The MCL Cup.

Held annually to serve as an avenue to test the students’ knowledge, skills, and attitude as well as to promote camaraderie among all participating schools, this year’s MCL Cup followed the theme “Rallying In Sync with Education (RISE)” and featured a total of six events.

“This event is MCL’s way towards fulfilling its mission. The MCL Cup is already our commitment to the region where we exist. Putting different secondary schools in the region in just one venue for a meaningful competition at no cost for them, drawing out the best from participants, allocating our resources and logistics in order to give quality events. This is education, and this is how education is shared to the community. This is the real essence of the event,” shared Prof. Melchor C. Morandarte, B.S. Entrepreneurship Program Chair and Overall Chair of The MCL Cup 2016.

One of the participating choirs adding creativity into their EVENTUS Chorale performance.

Assisting Prof. Morandarte were the chairpersons of each event: Prof. Raychelle R. Artuz for Brainmasters; Prof. Corazon C. Vergara for the Science Quiz Show; Prof. Lito E. Suello for the Math Quiz Show; Prof. Natalie Joyce H. Rivera for the SPEAK UP! Impromptu Speech Festival; Mr. Shinichi B. Takemura for Revolution, Innovation, Competition: Cheer and Dance 2016; and Prof. Christine Joanne L. Desacado for the EVENTUS Chorale.

The winners for each event took home trophies, medals, and printers for their respective school/s, as well as additional prizes depending on the event: RCBC vouchers (for Brainmasters, Science Quiz Show, Math Quiz Show, and SPEAK UP! Impromptu Speech Festival champions), Enchanted Kingdom tickets (for the EVENTUS Chorale champion), and Shakey’s gift certificates (for the Revolution, Innovation, Competition: Cheer and Dance 2016 winners).

Ultimately, three schools dominated the others with their participation and performance in the events. Hailed as the overall winners for The MCL Cup 2016 were St. Scholastica’s College – Westgrove (Champion), Sisters of Mary School – Adlas, Inc. (1st runner-up), and De La Salle University Integrated School (2nd runner-up).

With the winners being revealed, Prof. Morandarte wished “that all participants were able to learn something for themselves from the competition. Humility for the winners, and for those who didn’t win, learning to accept defeat and develop self- reliance, to know that in every contest there can only be one winner.”

Prof. Melchor Morandarte, B.S. Entrepreneurship program chair and overall chair of the The MCL Cup 2016, visited the winning schools to deliver their prizes. Among them was St. Scholastica’s College – Westgrove, which placed as the overall champion this year.
