A total of 240 incoming Grade 11 students experienced life at Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) through the MCL Summer Camp 2017 last May 8-12. On the first day, the attendees went through an orientation where they received firsthand information from the Supreme Student Council (SSC) President-elect Andrew R. De Jesus, followed by the Senior High School (SHS) Student Council President Reginald A. Lunar and MCL-Learning Environments and Innovations (LEI) Director Prof. Abigail Joy Rodelas-Angelia. Andrew greeted the attendees with opening remarks, giving them attitude-related “survival tips” in MCL. “Number one, be yourself. Here in MCL, you don’t need to portray a fake image just to fit in because everybody fits in just right. Number two, be approachable. Always smile. Number three, be positive. Remove all the negative vibes in you and enjoy being a student kasi minsan lang ito.”

Malayan Colleges Laguna’s (MCL) 13th Commencement Exercises witnessed the first batch of graduating class 2017 and their proud parents gather last May 24 at the Plenary Hall, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City. The 461 graduates were privileged to gain wisdom from Ms. Chiqui Escareal-Go, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mansmith and Fielders, Inc., who shared life lessons from her personal journey when she graduated college that can be applied in facing the next chapters of life. She recalled the brief history of 1983 and how Benigno Aquino’s assassination affected their generation. “When things change or become obsolete too quickly, all the more you must keep moving forward. You must keep re-inventing. Keep learning. Invest in yourself by continuously upgrading your skills,” stated Mrs. Escareal-Go. She even imparted that having a sense of purpose is important to keep the students in track and to differentiate them in the real world.

Gernale, a Multimedia Arts (MMA) alumna, made it to the top 100 in the final round of Art Olympia Competition 2017 in Tokyo, Japan. “Hindi ko po in-expect na mapapasali ako sa 100, kasi nag-try lang talaga ako.”

In the recently concluded LUNDUYAN 2017: 17th Luzon-wide Student Press Convention, two members of Malayan Colleges Laguna’s student publication, KAMALAYAN, dominated the Feature Writing Category of the On-The-Spot Writing Contest which was held as a surprise after the writing workshops.

A queen of beauty and brains emerged yet again from the school of Excellence and Virtue as incoming Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) student Maru Joi O. Pasion was crowned as the 1st runner-up in the 19th Rosas ng Sta. Rosa last May 1.
