In its 42nd year, the annual Philippine Association of Maritime Institutions (PAMI) Annual Convention and Election of Officers, with the theme “PAMI Forward to International Standards,” was held at Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) on February 10-11, 2017.

The welcome and opening remarks were given by MCL Executive Vice President Engr. Dodjie Maestrecampo and PAMI President Engr. Felix Oca, respectively.

Secretary Arthur P. Tugade of the Department of Transportation served as the guest of honor and keynote speaker of the event, expressing his devotion to the maritime industry especially to the maritime education and training (MET) sector.

Delegates from different maritime schools in the country were honored to hear from the Convention’s invited speakers: Congressman Jesulito “Jess” A. Manalo of ANGKLA Party List was represented by Capt. Ronald Enrile, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Dr. Marcial Amaro, Ms. Eleanor Fernandez of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council (PJMCC) Consultant Mr. Wenifredo G. Sola.

They, respectively, talked about “Updates on Maritime Legislation,” “MARINA Updates on Policies for MET and Shipboard Training,” “CHED Updates & Guidelines on the Monitoring of Maritime Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs),” and “Maritime Development Forum 2017.”

Furthermore, while MCL Learning Environments & Innovations (LEI) Director Prof. Abigail Joy D. Rodelas-Angelia tackled about the College’s blended learning setting, MCL-College of Maritime Education and Training (CMET)’s B.S. Marine Transportation Chair Capt. Armando A. Ternida shared its best maritime practices on outcomes-based education (OBE) of “Voyage Planning.”

Dr. Teresa S. Sarabia, PAMI Vice President for Visayas, was the master of ceremonies.

As the Convention host, PAMI Vice President for NCR/South Luzon & MCL-CMET Dean Dr. Edgardo P. Geguiento toured the visitors around the campus.

According to the delegates, this year’s annual convention is one of the most attended and well-organized events of the association.

The event ended with a new set of officers, with MCL, yet again, elected as one of the PAMI board members.
